About me

I am a natural and instinctive musician. First and foremost I am a singer, but the piano is my instrumental tool. As a young child, as soon as I was able to reach the keys, I was exploring the space that I could create with the range of the piano, so extended chords and the lyrical and percussive qualities of the piano are an intrinsic part of my music and song-writing. As a natural singer, I have developed my own vocal style, having had a classical training. Working with these tools, I have refined my own song-writing craft into what many consider that of the classic singer-songwriter.
My songs are stripped back, raw, intimate and heartfelt. They are observational and semi-autobiographical . They speak of hope, sorrow, longing and regret. I want the message of each song to communicate with the listener. There has to be meaning - a story to tell, a connection with the audience. The marriage of lyrics, melody and chords is critical to this. In a world where commercial music is busy and over-produced, I seek to create space for the listener to seek refuge in and enjoy.
This could be an unexpected chord, a turn in the melodic line, the narrative reflected in the choice of words and delivery of the vocal line. My vocal delivery is warm, rich, intimate and vulnerable and my hope is that I provide an experience that is truthful and transcendent for the listener.
